The wife of a retired judge of the Supreme Court, Saidi Yangulbaeva, and the mother of Chechen human rights activists, Zarema Musaeva, were hospitalized from the pre-trial detention center.
Musayeva has been in jail since January 2022. During this time, her eyesight deteriorated and she developed back pain, which made her practically unable to move. A few weeks ago, a court in Grozny decided that Musayeva’s health was “not in doubt” and left her in a pre-trial detention center. There her health deteriorated and Musaeva was transferred to the hospital.
Zarema Musaeva was kidnapped by security forces from Nizhny Novgorod in January 2022 and forcibly taken to Grozny. After that, she was arrested for 15 days, and then the woman was sent to a pre-trial detention center in the case of violence against a security official. According to the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, while being transported from Nizhny Novgorod to Grozny, a woman “attacked a police officer and almost deprived him of an eye.”
Musayeva’s family members fled Russia fearing for their lives after being threatened by Kadyrov and accused of terrorism.
