Contract worker from Chechnya Ahyad Kalishev refused to go to war in Ukraine, for which he was fired from the army. In the Southern District Military Court, he was unable to challenge the refusal of the Grozny garrison court to reinstate him in the service. The appeal was considered in early June, but the court has only now published its decision.
A contract soldier was fired from a unit in Chechnya in July 2022. The basis was the report of the acting battalion commander that Kalishev refused to go to the “special military operation” – this is how the war against Ukraine is officially called in Russia.
The contractor considered the dismissal illegal and tried to appeal against it in the garrison court in Grozny. They partially satisfied the claim, since Kalishev was fired without the provision of the required leave, but the dismissal order itself was not canceled. The Southern Garrison Military Court agreed with this conclusion.
