The Head (Baskhan) of Gagauzia, an autonomous region of Moldova, said that during her trip to Russia, she negotiated cheap gas for Gagauzia directly from Gazprom and “salary bonuses” for residents of the region.
As “Europeyska Pravda” writes, the words of Evgenia Hutsul are quoted by Newsmaker.
After returning to Moldova, Baskhan stated at a briefing that at meetings in Russia, including with President Vladimir Putin, she discussed cheap gas for the region and bonus payments for residents from “special accounts” in Russia.
“Earlier, the authorities of Moldova did not allow to conclude a gas agreement with the Turkish side. We appealed to Russia to receive gas at a special tariff directly from Gazprom, Yevgenia Hutsul said, adding that the legal nuances of a potential agreement are being discussed.
She also stated that she found “sponsors” in Russia – without specifying which ones – who were allegedly ready to transfer additional funds to the budget of Gagauzia but they were allegedly confiscated due to Chisinau’s order.
Hutsul said that in connection with this, she appealed to the Russian Federation with a request to “open accounts for the residents of Gagauzia” for salary bonuses.
“Accounts will be opened in the Russian payment system “Mir”. Residents of Gagauzia will be able to receive remittances from abroad,” she said.
It is not clear how it should work in theory, since the Mir system is not available on the territory of Moldova.
It is also not known in what way is it possible to supply gas to the autonomous region from Russia if Ukraine stops the transit of Russian gas through its territory with the expiration of the relevant agreement.
Prime Minister Dorin Rechan called Hutsul’s promises untrue.
“Over the past two years, we have seen how this criminal group (Rechan was talking about the Shor party – Ed.) made many false promises. Both I and all citizens expect the members of this criminal group to appear before the court… These are false promises,” Rechan said.
It will be recalled that during her week-long visit to Russia Yevgenia Hutsul, Bashkan of Gagauzia, met with Putin and complained about “oppression” by Chisinau and received a promise of “support” from the President of the Russian Federation.
In recent weeks, other Moldovan politicians have travelled to Moscow, including the fugitive oligarch Ilan Shor and deputies of the Block of Communists and Socialists.
This happened against the background of how the head of the Moldovan special service, Aleksandru Mustiatse, said that Russia will try to interfere in the presidential and parliamentary elections and provoke social conflicts in Gagauzia and Transnistria in order to compromise Moldova’s accession to the EU.
