Apart from everything else, Russian propaganda deliberately highlights the role of the Chechens and the Buryats, above all directing the anger and hatred of Ukrainians against them and not at the ethnic Russians. Against the backdrop of “wild foreigners”, the reputation of Russians is whitewashed to promote the Panslovyan concept of the “Russian world” in Ukraine. Conversely, burning the bridges between Ukrainians and the enslaved nations of the Russian Federation can incapacitate their cooperation in the cause of the collapse of the empire.
