Until now, most senior government officials not only fail to take measures to learn the Ukrainian language, but even deliberately mock those private individuals and officials who address them in Ukrainian, thereby setting a bad example for their subordinate employees.

The Commissioner of the Rada asks the senior officials to remember that the orders of the Minister of Transport must be carried out. In order to ensure this, he will personally monitor the situation and report to the Minister of Transport through the Chief Commissioner.

Victims of Bolshevik Rule in Kyiv

Kyivskaya Mysl (Kyiv Thought), 3 March, reports:

According to materials collected by the Ukrainian Red Cross, during several dozen days of Bolshevik rule in Kyiv, more than 3,000 people were executed.

Among the most well-known victims were Metropolitan Volodymyr, Minister of Agriculture Zarudny, the beloved physician Bocharov, journalist Pugach, and the Ukrainian politician Pochynovskyi. Their bodies were later found mutilated, horrifically, and stripped of their clothing.

Along with them, another 40 Ukrainian Socialist-Revolutionaries were executed.

The same fate befell 106 high school students who had enlisted in the Ukrainian combat corps.

Likewise, 216 sailors of the Ukrainian naval corps were executed, although they had remained neutral during the fighting.

Local Life

• On Sunday, 29 September, the Ukrainian opera “Zaporozhets Beyond the Danube” was staged at the Malikhov Assembly, and on Monday, 30 September, “Natalka Poltavka” was performed at the Railway Assembly.

The operas’ artistic performance is described as amateurish and weak. These were not Ukrainian performances, but a caricature of Ukrainian performances. They were staged by amateur forces, and only two rehearsals were held before the performances. This is already going too far.

• The Ukrainian Delegates’ Congress has taken place; its resolutions will be published.

• At the Malikhovya station, a “Ukrainian Dictionary” is being printed containing up to 10,000 words. The dictionary was compiled by D. Litur. Price: no more than 1 ruble 50 kopecks.

• A general meeting of the student association “Ukraine’s Secondary Schools” is scheduled for Sunday, 13 October. One of the main issues is the reserve association.

ANNOUNCEMENT

The Ukrainian Consulate in Harbin announces that the Ukrainian consul appointed by the Government of Ukraine has arrived in Harbin and has begun performing his duties.

The consulate registers all Ukrainians who consider themselves citizens of the Ukrainian State and issues passports based on certificates issued by Ukrainian council-organisations.
