On 4 July at 12:00, a panel discussion will be held on the topic: “Decolonisation of Russia as a Priority of the Defence Democracy Strategy for Ukraine.”
Organisers: NGO “Foundation for the Promotion of Democracy”, NGO “Ukrainian Security Club”.
Participants: Janusz Bugaysky – foreign policy analyst, senior fellow at the Jamestown Foundation, author of the book “Failing State. Instructions for Dismantling Russia” and 21 other works on international relations; Oleksiy Ivashin – coordinator of the initiative group of the Public-Military Movement, veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war; Igor Zhdanov – head of the “Information Defence” project of the Open Policy Foundation, former Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine (2014-2019).
Moderator: Yuriy Honcharenko — Head of the InfoLight.UA Research and Analytical Group, Chairman of the Ukrainian Security Club.
Questions for discussion:
- Prospects and existing preconditions for the probable collapse of Russia.
- Why Ukraine needs long-term war planning.
- How to preserve democracy in times of war.
- The importance of forming the right narratives as an element of information defence.
Briefly. The panel discussion is devoted to discussing the concept of decolonisation of Russia as a key strategy for ensuring long-term security of Ukraine, which requires wide recognition among world elites and expert communities. Defensive democracy implies not only readiness to repel aggression, but also the ability to conduct successful combat operations in various foreign policy conditions and the principle of “serve or assist” for long-term confrontation in the conditions of a protracted war of attrition.
Experts will also discuss the creation of strategic counternarratives for American and European audiences that, instead of simply countering disinformation, will provide context and render destructive Russian influences powerless.
For reference: The NATO summit in June 2025 officially recognised Russia as a “long-term threat to Euro-Atlantic security,” which indicates the common interest of the Alliance and Ukraine in the decolonisation of Russia.
Among the participants in the discussion is American analyst Janusz Bugajski, who actively contributed to the processes that led to the collapse of the USSR and investigates the systemic weaknesses of Russian institutions as prerequisites for its future disintegration.
