The first Lithuanian volunteer fighting on the side of Ukraine against the Russian Federation was killed on Friday when a Russian drone hit the car he was travelling in.

The head of the Gyvačių Sala (Snake Island) training mission, Sigitas Maliauskas, confirmed the death of the Lithuanian.
According to him, the deceased is 43-year-old Tadas Tumas. According to reports, the man is survived by his wife and two children in Lithuania.
Lithuanian Defense Minister Arvydas Anushauskas also confirmed that he had received information about the death of a Lithuanian in Ukraine.
“This information reached the Lithuanian embassy in Kyiv and us. According to preliminary information, he died near Bakhmut, but no other circumstances have been reported,” the minister said.
The Lithuanian volunteer served in the 92nd Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served a little more than three months.
“By profession, he was a mortarman. But, as is often the case in military operations, he performed various duties,” Malyauskas said.
According to him, Tumas and another soldier, who also died as a result of a Russian drone attack, were transporting mines to the front line near Bakhmut.
Last week, it became known about the death of a volunteer from the Czech Republic near Avdiivka. In December, a volunteer from Ireland died during the war in Ukraine.
