The Head of the Estonian Defence Readiness Department, Gert Kaiu, praised the achievements of the Ukrainian military in the war against Russia in April.
He said this during a weekly briefing at the Estonian Ministry of Defence, as quoted by ERR, writes “European Truth.”
Kayu stated that Ukraine has recently managed to strike deep into Russian territory and destroy Russian air defence systems, thereby “taking the strategic initiative.”
According to Kay, April was marked by Ukraine’s successes in destroying Russian air defence systems at various levels.
“As a statistical example: if in January 21 Russian air defence systems were hit – and we are talking about everything from tactical level to strategic early warning radars – then in February 25 systems were hit, and in March – 41 different systems. The current trend indicates that April will continue at the same pace,” he noted.
He is confident that the systematic deep-strike campaign that the Ukrainians conducted last week, which targeted Russian military targets, should be considered significant.
He also noted that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are successfully preventing the accumulation of Russian troops for future offensive operations.
“The result of this is that Russian forces have been unable to prepare effective offensive operations – they are being attacked before they have time to assemble a large enough contingent for an attack or offensive operations,” he emphasised.
In late March, Estonian intelligence noted that a series of recent Ukrainian strikes on Russian ports on the Gulf of Finland coast had caused significant problems for Russia’s oil exports.
Also, earlier, Kayu stated that Russia is using up air defence missiles faster than it can produce them, and therefore is forced to choose which strategic objects to protect.
