RMA business school teacher Eldar Marchenko has been subjected to a series of arrests since early August. The man is accused of “cooperation” with a neighbouring country and has been detained for various reasons, including for alleged petty hooliganism.
A day before the first such arrest, on 1 August, Marchenko’s home was searched, after which he was taken away for questioning by the FSB. On the way to Lubyanka, the man was tortured with electricity for about two hours, beating out testimony about alleged “cooperation with Ukrainian special services.”
The torture stopped only after he signed a confession to allegedly “carrying out assignments from the Armed Forces of Ukraine.” A statement was filed with the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee about the use of torture by security forces, but there has been no response yet.
