The Polish authorities have extradited to Russia a native of Chechnya, Alvi Akiyev, whom the Russian authorities are accusing under the “terrorist” article. This was reported to the Kavkaz.Realii website by two sources in a human rights organization and the Chechen diaspora, who wished to remain anonymous.
According to them, Alvi Akiyev was deported to Russia ten days ago. During another visit to extend his migration status, he was detained and taken to the border with the Kaliningrad region, where he was handed over to Russian border guards.
“Over the past month and a half, at least two natives of Chechnya have been quietly deported from Poland. Another one had his residence permit taken away and is scheduled to be deported, but they were unable to detain him because he was not at home. In addition, several Chechens have recently been denied extensions of their residence permits. This is becoming widespread,” the source noted.
As Alvi Akiyev himself told the Kavkaz.Realii website, in 2018, a criminal case was opened against him in Russia due to his participation in an illegal formation in Syria. In Poland, an extradition procedure was initiated – the Chechen spent four years in a migration prison and lost several extradition trials.
However, after Russia invaded Ukraine, the court found that Akiyev could be tortured in the country. After the hearing, he was taken to a police station, where he was arrested for illegally being in Poland. Akiyev could have been expelled not through extradition, but administratively.
- In November 2023, a rally against the deportation of Chechen refugee Alvi Akiyev to Russia was held in Vienna near the Polish embassy. About 30 people took part in the action
- Islam Belokiev, the former press secretary of the Chechen Sheikh Mansur Battalion fighting on the Ukrainian side, may be stripped of his “additional protection” status – a case on this issue has been opened by the Foreigners’ Affairs Department in Poland. Belokiev reported the official message to the Kavkaz.Realii website.
