Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili said that her ancestors and herself have always had the feeling that Georgia has had one enemy for centuries – Russia, but some people do not realize this even today.
“Perhaps some people don’t realize it, some people don’t want to understand it, and some people are fine with it. But this is a fact that the “enemy” himself does not hide. This fact can be seen throughout.
Perhaps, in some periods after the independence of “Georgia”, someone might have thought that there could have been a different attitude on the part of Russia.
Perhaps – I don’t know – in Russia, someone thinks that there may be a different relationship with their neighbour. But today this does not exist, does not exist – there is not a single sign from there that would indicate that Russia has the consciousness or desire to establish equal relations with its neighbours,” the head of state noted.
In response to the journalist’s clarifying question about whether the head of state, like her father Levan Zurabishvili once (the head of the Georgian community in France, publicist, translator – ed.), considers it possible to unite the people of Georgia if only because the country has one enemy – Russia, the president replied:
“It is necessary. It’s not possible, but it’s obligatory <I inherited this from my father>,” Zurabishvili emphasized.
