A Russian “opposition activist” arrested in Poland and due to stand trial next month has admitted to working as an undercover agent for the Russian FSB and providing information on other opposition figures.

Court documents state this, The Guardian writes, and “European Truth” reports.

The publication received an anonymous copy of the indictment against Rogov and his wife from a Polish court.

Igor Rogov, 30, was reportedly associated with various opposition movements. According to court documents, Rogov and his wife left Russia in 2021 and, in 2022, received visas to Poland, where they arrived a few days after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine and settled in the city of Sosnowiec.

Last summer, Rogov was arrested by Polish authorities, initially on suspicion of involvement in a package containing explosives.

The package reportedly contained explosive device components and was addressed to Rogov, although he never received it. He said he agreed to accept the package as a favour to a friend. A Ukrainian woman was also arrested in connection with the package, but has since been released.

Rogova’s wife, Irina Rogova, was later arrested. The couple was accused of collaborating with the FSB to provide information about other Russian opposition activists.

The documents indicate long-term cooperation with the FSB. Rogov admitted to investigators that several years ago, while still in Russia, he was approached by the security service and forced to infiltrate a local cell of the opposition movement.

He said he was given a disposable phone and SIM cards to contact his FSB handler, and when “cooperation reached a higher level,” he had personal meetings in an unmarked apartment near the local FSB headquarters.

“At that time, he also began receiving money in exchange for cooperation,” the indictment states.

According to the indictment, Rogov told his wife that the FSB had recruited him. She said that “he probably received money for it, because at that time he was not working, but he had money.”

Later, in Poland, Rogov asked his wife to help him deliver to his handlers an encrypted USB drive containing reports on Russian activists and other individuals in Poland who might be of interest to the FSB. He gave her the USB drive to take to Russia, hiding it in a package with souvenirs from Poland and an address to which it should be sent.

The first hearing in the Rogovych case is scheduled for 8 December.

Poland recently detained two Ukrainians accused of collecting information about the military and critical infrastructure for foreign intelligence.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk also said that the Internal Security Agency, in cooperation with other services, recently detained eight people in various parts of the country on suspicion of preparing sabotage.
