Supporters of independent Tatarstan, united in the public movement “Vatanchy”, seek to weaken the influence of the Russian special services on the Tatar diaspora outside of Russia.
The founder of the movement, Ilnar Kamalov, told QIRIM.News about this .
He noted that most of the public organizations of the Volga Tatars are currently under the control of the Russian special services, and supporters of an independent Tatarstan are scattered.
“The government of Russia controls all spheres of life activity – social – political, religious – of Tatars in the republic, at home and abroad. …The majority of Tatar diasporas and communities are located in other countries and are in the zone of influence of the Russian special services,” Kamalov noted.
“Vatanchy” should rally supporters of Tatarstan’s independence.
The organization’s priorities are the preservation of the Tatar language and culture, the historical memory of the people, the return of the people’s writing to the Latin script, and the revival of national education.
The “Vatancha” organization was created in August 2020 with the support of the Deputy Prime Minister of the “Tatar Government in Exile” Rafis Kashapov , who received political asylum in Great Britain after his release from the Russian colony in 2018.
Russian legislation forbade the peoples of this country to translate writing into the Latin alphabet under the threat of criminal prosecution.
The teaching of the native languages of the peoples of Russia has been reduced to optional courses in secondary schools. Volga Tatars are the second largest people of the Russian Federation after the Russians.
It was previously reported that the government of Independent Tatarstan recognized the Holodomor – a mass famine in Ukraine in the 20s and 30s of the 20th century – as an act of genocide by the leadership of the USSR against the people of Ukraine.
