The structure of the Russian Orthodox Church at the UN Economic Council spreads xenophobic, neo-Nazi and neo-colonial narratives, – representative of Ukraine at the UN Kyslytsia

The World Russian People’s Council” has a special consultative status at the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. It should be stripped of this status.

As  Censor.NET informs about Ukrinform, this was stated by the representative of Ukraine at the UN Serhiy Kyslytsia.

He appealed to the President of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOR) with a proposal to deprive the “World Russian People’s Cathedral” of its special consultative status.

“Ukraine expresses deep concern that the organization “World Russian People’s Council”, which promotes racist, xenophobic, neo-Nazi and neo-colonial narratives, continues to use ECOSOR’s special consultative status,” Kislytsia said in a letter to ECOSOR’s president.

According to him, such a situation not only allows this neo-colonial structure to cover itself with the authority of a UN body for informational support of Russian aggression and whitewashing war crimes but also undermines the trust in ECOSOR and the United Nations as a whole.

According to Kislytsa, the actions of the “Russian Council” may violate the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination and other international conventions.

The diplomat recalled that, under the ECOSOR resolution, to establish consultative relations with non-governmental organizations, their “goals and tasks must correspond to the spirit, goals and principles of the UN Charter.”
