“The collapse of Russia both as an empire and as a “natural state” is almost inevitable due to many reasons, of which I, as a political economist, will single out the depletion of the main sources of rent, says Volodymyr Dubrovsky, expert at the Economic Expert Platform, senior economist at CASE Ukraine.
If events continue to develop in the current trend, then in the next 20 years, oil and gas production in the Arctic will simply become impractical, as prices will fall and cheap deposits will be exhausted. Russian strategists know this, so they tried to switch development to post-industrial sectors through the Korean model (because no other is compatible with “clamps” and authoritarianism). They suffered a resounding defeat, and now they have also lost the human capital necessary for this.
Therefore, even if there were no war, Russia is doomed”.
